What is Lapbooking?

"What is lapbooking," is a question that is often posed by those who first enter the arena of homeschooling. Rosetta Stone sends out an e-newsletter that answers this question in their article, "What is Lapbooking and Can You Do It?" I hope this article blesses someone who might be asking themselves these very questions.

Curious George Lapbook

(Inside of the fold with the "Man with the Yellow Hat" on the front.)

(Inside of the folded sheet above the clock. This explains how to make a boat out of newspaper.)

All aspects of this lapbook came from the Curious George Printables section at PBS Kids' site, except for the picture of my child visiting with Curious George. Feel free to browse the site and find some pictures and activities that your child could use to create their own unique lapbook! We had a lot of fun with this one. My daughter made her own clock prior to the time she asked to make a Curious George lapbook. So, I willingly coloured another copy because she wanted to play with hers in her room. It was a fun lapbook to make!

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

A notebooking/lapbooking folder for the book The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi has been added to my Yahoo group (link found on sidebar). I did not make this item but was asked to share it with those who are interested in it. It can be found in the Pieces of the Puzzle Lapbooks folder and is geared toward those who are 9-12 years of age.

Blessings to all!

Also, for those who have enjoyed the lapbooks that have been shared with me recently, Lee has offered to share even more lapbooks with those who are members of my Simply Lapbooks group. In fact, it has been renamed, "Simply Lapbooks and Homeschool Helps," because she has offered to share some other nuggets for notebooking or homeschooling studies. I will not be posting every lapbook here but if you would like to have access them the link to the Yahoo group is in my sidebar. Have a great homeschooling year

Excellent Resource for Nature Lapbooks

Don't miss this site! Nature Detectives has great resources to use for lapbooks or for those who have caught the workbox bug (like I think we have). I found a cute Twig-Tac-Toe game on the site that we'll be using for a robin lapbook this summer. Robins have made a nest in our backyard so it's the perfect opportunity for such a lapbook!

Have a wonderful summer and I may just post our lapbook whenever we're done with it! It's a laissez-faire summer around here so I'm not sure when that will be. :0)

Blessings,

Erna

End Of Year Lapbook #2

(Inside of School Days.)

(Inside of Word Search booklet.)

(Inside of My Nature Book.)

(This is the inside of the folded piece o paper at the top left of the centre of the lapbook.)

(Inside of cloud book titled, "Dream with me a While . . . )

This is the older version of our End of the Year Lapbook. I hope to upload the files to my Yahoo Group in the near future if anyone is interested in it. I enjoyed doing this with my children and will likely continue this as a yearly tradition so we can see what their interests were over the years. :0)

Cover:

  • Picture, name, and age of my daughter.
Left Flap:
  • Favourite Layer Book. Focuses on a musician, videos, books, things to do outside (or sports), and collections. The musician's section shares the artist's name and titles of favourite songs. "Videos" shares the title of a video and a brief narration of the video. I also asked my child to tell me what they liked most about the video. The books section also has the title and a brief narration in it. Things to do outside and collections just have bulleted lists of items.
  • Favourite Things to do with My Family. This features pages about traditions, holidays, and every day activities.

Middle:
  • Sketch Your Favourite Animal
  • A Person Who Inspires Me. The person's name is written in this booklet but it could include a picture also.
  • Friends Forever. There is a list of friends' names in this heart-shaped book. However, pictures could be added too.
  • School Days. This shares my daughter's favourite subject, something that challenged her this year, her favourite activities, and something she would like to learn more about.
  • My Little Nature Book. This was originally a booklet titled, "My Story." However, my daughter was taking apart a flower on the day we worked on this booklet and she wanted it to become a mini nature book. So, I went with the flow. :0)
  • Word Search. I listed a few questions in this booklet and let her find the answers. We touched on her sibling's names, where she lives, and where she was born.

Right Flap:
  • In the Kitchen. Pages share favourite meals, favourite treats, and "I like to help by . . . "
  • Around Home. My daughter was sent to take pictures of our home, her favourite room in the home, and her bedroom.
  • Dream with Me a While. The page titles included were:
    • If I could do anything, I would . . .
    • If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to . . .
    • If I could eat only one thing all the time it would be . . .
    • If I could do any job I would like to, I would . . .
    • If I could live in the Bible times, I would want to live when . . .
    • If I could meet anyone, it would be . . .
    • If I could ask God anything, I would ask . . .
Back:
  • Self-portrait frame made using Print Master. Artwork compliments of my daughter.
